Everybody has a story. That’s one of my favorite things about being human. As a lifelong hairstylist, I’ve learned that storytelling is an art - one that connects us, makes us laugh, cry, and truly feel the essence someone else’s journey. I’ve realized that I experience the natural world in the same way. There’s an infinite amount of hidden wisdom and lived experiences waiting to be uncovered, just like the stories we share.
Born and raised in the lush Pacific Northwest, I’ve been endlessly curious and a little bit feral for as long as I can remember. My instinct to question everything began long before I had the words to explain it. Rules without reason like “Don’t do that.”, “You shouldn’t.”, “That’s not a good idea.”, and my personal favorite, “Because I said so.” were, and still are, the words that spark my fire - the magick password that triggers my need to know why.
For 37 years, I’ve danced along the lines of taboo, driven by a fascination of the unknown, exploring through my own rebellious quest for understanding and self expression. I’ve fallen in love with exploring things that others tend to shy away from. Why do we fear what we don’t understand? After all, beauty is the mystery. It’s the growth, the decay, the death and the rebirth. It’s woven into everything, from the most vibrant sunset to the stickiest little critter with too many legs. Beauty is everywhere and it’s even more profound in the places you’d least expect it.
Experience is the only fail-proof way to truly understand something. Nothing fills my soul more than stepping into the unknown - trying new things, exploring uncharted places and uncovering beauty where others might not think to look. Nature, like life, is raw, untamed and constantly evolving - breaking down and rebuilding itself in ways both eerie and mesmerizing. I find that same energy fuels my craft. The bones, mushrooms and flora I work with are fragments of untold stories, waiting to be discovered and woven into something new.
A central thread in my creations is their crescent moon shape, which is deeply symbolic to me and the world around us. The phases of the moon are a reflection of nature’s ebb and flow - ever changing, yet constant. The moon’s gentle pull is both grounding and mysterious, and yet so powerful, it moves oceans - guiding us through cycles of growth, transformation and renewal. Just as the moon waxes and wanes, we too go through phases of transformation. It is in this cycle - of darkness giving birth to light, of endings sparking new beginnings - that I find magick. The crescent, in particular, feels like a quiet whisper of possibility, a threshold between what is and what could be. To me, the moon represents not just the night sky, but the hidden mysteries of life - the magick that resides in the shadows, waiting to be discovered.
I hope my creations spark curiosity, make people look twice and ask all the questions. I want them to remind us that what we fear is often what we don’t understand yet - That even in decay, there is transformation and true beauty exists in the unexpected, the forgotten and the wild.
